Thom Yorke: ANIMA [XL]

ANIMA is Thom Yorke’s first studio LP as a solo artist since 2014’s Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes. The new album, which Yorke has described as “dystopian,” was written and produced by Yorke and Nigel Godrich. ANIMA was released in conjunction with a short film of the same name, directed by Yorke’s frequent collaborator Paul Thomas Anderson. The vinyl edition of the new record includes the bonus track “Ladies & Gentlemen, Thank You for Coming.”

Freddie Gibbs / Madlib: Bandana [Keep Cool/RCA/Madlib Invazion/ESGN]

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib have finally released Bandana—the long-awaited follow-up to their 2014 collaborative LP Piñata. The new album features contributions from Pusha T, Black Thought, Killer Mike, Anderson .Paak, and Yasiin Bey. OASIS is the surprise collaborative album from Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and Puerto Rican latin trip artist Bad Bunny. According to Bad Bunny, “OASIS is a transcendental and refreshing album; it is a rescue, a relief.”

Peggy Gou: DJ-Kicks [!K7]

Berlin-based artist Peggy Gou has curated the 69th edition of the long-running mix series DJ-Kicks. Gou’s 73-minute mix features music by the likes of Kode9 and Aphex Twin, as well as her own tracks.

Mega Bog: Dolphine [Paradise of Bachelors]

Mega Bog is the alias of Pacific Northwest multi-instrumentalist Erin Elizabeth Birgy. Her fifth album Dolphine is the follow-up to 2017’s Happy Together. Daughter of Swords: Dawnbreaker [Nonesuch]

When Alexandra Sauser-Monnig is not performing as one-third of the vocal group Mountain Man, she makes music as Daughter of Swords, and Dawnbreaker is her debut under the moniker. Sofia Bolt: Waves [Loantaka]

Sofia Bolt is the recording project of Paris-born, L.A.-based guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Amelie Rousseaux. Waves, her debut, was recorded at Earth, Wind & Fire’s Los Angeles studio. It features an arrangement by the legendary Van Dyke Parks, as well as a backing band of Emily Elhaj (Angel Olsen), Marian Lipino (La Luz), Bryant Fox (Miya Folick), and Itai Shapira (Rhye).
