BlocBoy JB is suing Epic Games, the makers of popular video game “Fortnite,” TMZ reports. BlocBoy reportedly claims that the signature dance moves from his “Shoot” music video are included in “Fortnite” without his permission and under a different name (“Hype”). According to the report, BlocBoy says he created the “Shoot” dance and that he’s in the process of registering a copyright on the dance.
BlocBoy JB previously tweeted, “EveryTime Somebody Does My Dance Dey Give Credit To @FortniteGame But Dey Ain’t Create Nothing But Da Game So Basically Dey Takin Money And Credit For My Shit Dats Crazy.” Pitchfork has contacted representatives for BlocBoy JB and Epic Games.
BlocBoy JB is not the first person to sue Epic Games over including allegedly stolen dance moves in “Fortnite.” In early December, 2 Milly filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the company for the unapproved use of his “Milly Rock” dance. Later that month, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star Alfonso Ribeiro (who played Carlton Banks) filed a suit against the developer for the use of the “Carlton Dance” in the game. “Fortnite” also incorporates moves from Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” music video.
