Charly Bliss have shared their first new song in four years: “You Don’t Even Know Me Anymore.” It was produced by Jake Luppen (of Hippo Campus) and Caleb Wright. In an accompanying Dan Shure–directed music video, the band’s Eva Hendricks can be seen singing along to the song over various green-screened backgrounds of mountains, flashing lights, and TV static. Interspersed throughout are clips of the band dancing in various locations while on the road. Watch the new video below.
In a statement about “You Don’t Even Know Me Anymore,” Hendricks said that it “sets the tone” for a sillier, more joyous era of Charly Bliss. “I moved to Australia and felt a million miles away from who I had been in New York. Like I had been reborn happy, carefree, and slightly less pale,” she explained. “I was convinced that I had totally bypassed the ‘wherever you go, there you are’ thing. Lexapro also helped. I think this song is a farewell to how sad and tortured I felt during the Young Enough album cycle. It’s like the ‘fuck it!’ that you earn after burning your entire life down and starting over.”
The band’s last records, sophomore album Young Enough and the Supermoon EP, both came out in 2019. Since then, Charly Bliss have stayed relatively quiet, popping up in 2020 to record the holiday single “It’s Christmas and I Fucking Miss You” with PUP and embarking on a handful of tours.
