I make no secret that I’m a sucker for horns, especially in trap music, but when an artist is able to use usual instruments in new and exciting ways, that’s when I really get excited. Crystal Knives just released “When I’m Okay” with Sarah De Warren & Eru Matsumoto on Elysian Records and this is one of those times.

“When I’m Okay” uses horns, but in more of a kazoo fashion than big brass. It also has a bit of a tribal and Eastern sound profile to it, using some very plucky strings and distinct melody. Matsumoto also lends her skills on cello to the track. Pair all of that with vocals from De Warren and you have a well-rounded, worldly song that sounds good play after play.

“The way this song came together was pretty wild – I actually met both Sarah and Eru on the same day, about an hour apart, for two totally different reasons, and the project ended up coming together so naturally that it almost felt like fate.” – Crystal Knives
