Fridays always present a challenge to music bloggers — there’s so much music coming out any only a finite amount of hours in the day to effectively get to and listen to it all. It helps when you know ahead of time what you want to pay attention to, and Dabin’s sophomore album Wild Youth is certainly one that I’ve had my eye on.

At just ten tracks, it may seem like a blink-and-you’ll-miss it album, but each track is so densely packed with quality, it never feels like you’re being short-changed. On Wild Youth, Dabin chose to call on collaborators such as Yoe Mase, Fytch, Essenger, Lexi Norton (of ECHOS), Dia Frampton and RUNN to name a few.

It’s clear that Dabin’s time on the road with Illenium for much of 2018 has rubbed off on him, but not in the way that you might expect. It’s not that he’s adopted a more melodic bass approach to his music, rather that he’s less compromising in his artistic vision. Wild Youth is flawless in conveying his intended sound and story; Dabin himself might disagree, but that’s how I see it.
