For Diplo‘s latest single, the Mad Decent producer enlists in rapper Octavian for a chilled out track, “New Shapes.” More subtle then ever, Diplo dilutes his sound so Octavian’s verses can shine. The result is simply lovely.
The new collab marks another track off his forthcoming Europa EP. He previously released “Boom Bye Bye” with Niska. Just as the name suggests, the EP is all about Europe — where he first learned to DJ and produce. Now, Diplo has gone worldwide, but he won’t forget the experiences that made him.
“I met Octavian at a party in London. We took a photo and I never thought I would see the kid again,” Diplo shares in a press release. “Over the next six months, I kept hearing his name and seeing him on great songs. I tried to stay in touch even though he had another twelve phone numbers since we met. Finally, he was stuck in L.A. for a while and it was easy to pull up on him. After a few weeks, we nailed this song and I’m glad it gets to finally see the light of day. Big up to Jim-E Stack for producing this with me.”
