DMX (real name: Earl Simmons) has been released from prison, CNN reports. The rapper went to jail in January 2018 on a bail violation, after previously pleading guilty to tax evasion in November 2017. In March 2018, Simmons was sentenced to one year in prison for felony tax evasion.

Vulture first reported the news of Earl Simmons’ release on Thursday, January 24 after speaking with Simmons’ lawyer Murray Richman. According to Vulture, while Simmons’ release date from West Virginia’s Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution is listed as January 27, the Federal Bureau of Prisons has a policy to release inmates on the weekday before their release date if said date falls during a weekend. Simmons will reportedly be under supervised release for three years.
