Escape to a Dark Futuristic Universe with LEViTATE’s New EP “Fatalism”

Seattle-based artist LEViTATE brings forth his newest EP Fatalism, an immersive retro-futuristic album which captures the angst and isolation of a dark cyberpunk universe with cinematic intensity.

Fatalism is an introspective EP whose haunting vocal cuts and glitchy samples create an eerily surreal and dissonant ambiance with a signature deep dub touch. Reminiscent of classic soundtracks like Bladerunner, in just four tracks this EP elicits a whole other world comprised of unease and intrigue, flirting with atonality to construct otherworldly soundscapes both alarming and enticing.

LEViTATE is a seasoned producer with numerous EPs, albums and singles released on labels like Block Society, Buygore and OTODAYO Records, as well as collaborations with the one and only Bassnectar. Fatalism, however, is LEViTATE’s first independent endeavor. Much like the artist releasing this EP, this album itself urges us to boldly traverse into the unknown. LEViTATE has used Fatalism to breathe new life into an underdeveloped sound, whilst also refining his own.

Fatalism ominously begins with “In This City”, a track of cinematic grandeur which features a restless glimmer of hope helplessly submitting to its fate, consumed by the darkness of the trap-style forces in its wake.

“Pitchblaque” begins with the pleasing sounds of a seemingly innocuous music box. But things aren’t always what they seem. Unintelligible vocals blink in and out of existence, bleeding into an abrasive dubstep rhythm that gives the urge to rage amid a lingering sense of unease. “Wasting Your Breath” is a melancholic ballad with pleas from the voice of something once human eagerly calling out into a glitched-out whirlwind of metallic harmonics.

The album’s final track “I’ll Pray For You” seems a fitting close to the sorrowful universe this album constructs. Its minimalistic beat, robotic vocals and harsh phasers resonate through a chasm of pounding metal, as if trapped in our shining technological prison. Kneeling in submission to our fate.
