Fievel Is Glauque—the ensemble revolving around the American keyboardist Zach Phillips and French singer Ma Clément—have announced their signing to Fat Possum with the songs “I’m Scanning Things I Can’t See” and “Dark Dancing.” Check out the Joey Agresta–directed video for the tracks below.
Phillips and Clément wrote the new songs in April 2023 and recorded them to a Tascam 424 Portastudio. “Our writing’s always ongoing, embodied, mystic, practicable, but its representation via recordings is unstable, scattershot, occult, impossible—maze-like motivation means dead ends abound,” Phillips explained.
Phillips and Clément met in Brussels, Belgium, where the American musician would move during the pandemic. Fievel Is Glauque’s first release was a Bandcamp compilation album comprising live mono cassette recordings titled God’s Trashmen Sent to Right the Mess and shared on New Year’s Day 2021. They would record their LP Flaming Swords over a single evening in August of that year with five other players.
