Fuerza Regida, the Mexican American band who recently collaborated with Shakira on “El Jefe,” have canceled a Tijuana concert, citing reasons beyond their control. According to Mexico’s Agencia Reforma, the band was the recent subject of threats from alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel—the same group that threatened Peso Pluma ahead of a planned show in Tijuana that also had to be canceled.
Fuerza Regida’s concert was scheduled for October 6 at Estadio Caliente—the same venue where Peso Pluma had planned to perform on October 14. The band are based out of San Bernardino, California. Songs from the band’s last album Pa Que Hablen have racked up hundreds of millions of listens on Spotify. Their single “Sabor Fresa,” released over the summer, marked their fourth song to go top 10 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. This year, in addition to Shakira, they’ve collaborated on singles with Take a Daytrip, Becky G, and more.
This past summer, Fuerza Regida’s security team was attacked in an apparent robbery on a highway in the Mexican state of Veraxruz. A bodyguard for the band, Jorge Morales, died from the attack.
