A new documentary about Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater is premiering at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. The Apollo, directed by Roger Ross Williams, will open the fest on April 24 and air on HBO later this year. It’s set to feature archival footage from the theater’s history, as well as new interviews with artists including Pharrell, Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle, and Jamie Foxx.

The Apollo is about so much more than just music, it’s about how we used music and art to lift ourselves out of oppression,“ said Roger Ross Williams in a statement. “The story of the Apollo is the story of the evolution of black American identity and how it grew to become the defining cultural movement of our time.”
