The 2025 Academy Awards take place tonight in Hollywood, California. Leading the nominees are Jacques Audiard’s cartel musical Emilia Pérez, with 13 nominations, followed by Brady Corbet’s epic drama The Brutalist and the silver-screen redux of the Wicked musical, both with 10. James Mangold’s Timothée Chalamet–led Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and papal thriller Conclave were close behind with eight mentions each. As the event gets under way at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, follow along here as we update the list in real time.
Other favorites from the pack include Sean Baker’s Anora, which comes in off the back of a Cannes Palme d’Or win and the top honor at the Producers Guild. Several directors of Best Picture nominees are up for their first-ever statuettes, including The Substance director Coralie Fargeat—the only woman nominated for Best Director this year—and Denis Villeneuve, who has somehow been nominated just four times, without a win.
