During the 2019 BET Awards, the first trailer for a new film called Queen & Slim was shared. Watch it below. The movie was written and produced by Lena Waithe. It’s directed by Melina Matsoukas (Beyoncé’s “Formation,” episodes of Issa Rae’s “Insecure”) and stars Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith. In the tradition of Bonnie and Clyde, it’s the story of a man and woman who go on the run when the man (played by Kaluuya) shoots and kills a police officer (played by Sturgill Simpson) in self-defense. The film is in theaters on November 27.
Simpson also appears in Jim Jarmusch’s new film The Dead Don’t Die, which features a new track of the same name by the country singer.
