R. Kelly’s attorney Steve Greenberg has come forth today (January 11) in an interview with the Associated Press, stating that Kelly denies all allegations of sexual misconduct involving women and underage girls. Greenberg also says that the abuse allegations made in the recent Lifetime documentary series “Survivng R. Kelly” are false, though he states that neither he nor Kelly have seen the series in its entirety.
According to the Associated Press, Greenberg stated: “The allegations aren’t true because he never knowingly had sex with an underage woman, he never forced anyone to do anything, he never held anyone captive, he never abused anyone.” Greenberg also praised R. Kelly’s musical talents, and refuted all of the claims made by the women who participated in “Survivng R. Kelly.”
Since “Surviving R. Kelly” first aired, several musicians who previously collaborated with Kelly have spoken out against the artist, including Chance the Rapper, Lady Gaga, and Phoenix. The series also motivated Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx in Chicago to encourage any survivors and witnesses with information about Kelly to contact her office in order to initiate an investigation. More recently, Kelly’s estranged daughter Buku Abi (born Joann Kelly) disavowed her father in an Instagram story, where she referred to him as a “monster.”
