Word on the street is that despite promising rumors, Kanye West will not be performing at Coachella 2019.

Speculation has made him a frontrunner to headline the music festival in Indio, California this Spring. On the verge of a lineup announcement, TMZ just broke the news of the cancellation. Consequence of Sound has separately confirmed this to be true.

According to the reports, Yeezy finds the Coachella’s stage to be “artistically limiting.” A insider close to the hip hop star explains, “These 40×60 stages are so archaic. It’s the same type of stage on which Shakespeare’s works were performed hundreds of years ago.”

With a slew of new material from Kanye and more expected on the way, this would have been an opportune time to bring his vision to Coachella. However, the staging issue has ultimately caused festival organizer Goldenvoice and the rapper to part ways, at least for now.

TMZ says Kanye is “done with performing at festivals” altogether, but we’ll see about that.

Childish Gambino remains the only confirmed headliner for Coachella 2019. Keep an eye out for that lineup announce soon.
