It’s hard to describe the artistry of Rex Orange County. The young, charismatic talent combines a plethora of styles and inspirations into his music. Setting it up for a melting pot of culture, the whimsical Alex O’ Connor is just getting started. Making his first touring runs in North America, millions of eager fans waited for his arrival. There is always a bit of optimism surrounding the idea whether or not a new artist can translate his music into a great live show. That was not the case on this particular night in San Francisco.
This was my second time seeing the artist, his debut was held at Outside Lands festival. His set took an arrow to the knee when his band wasn’t able to make it due to transportation issues. It was that day when he truly left me in awe as he improvised a solo acoustic set. Just like that performance, this night was nothing different. His timing, stage presence, talent, and charisma simply prove nonetheless that Rex Orange County will end up as a generational artist of his own. As he finishes his year with this last stop in California, it is now time for him to go back home, rest, and work on some more promising music for the future.
