SHADES, the experimental bass duo consisting of dubstep legends EPROM and Alix Perez, has released a daring five-track EP on DeadBeats dubbed Black Heart Communion. The dark, abrasive EP kicks off with the appropriately titled track “Lurking,” an eerie cinematic soundscape setting the album’s general tone of unease. It’s followed by “Two One Six”, an entrancing minimal dub tune. The EP’s title track is a beat-driven single wherein the gritty influence of both artists can be heard. The EP ends with a choir of lost souls singing in chorus into the cavernous void.
