Ralph, also known for her role in the original Broadway run of Dreamgirls, brought her version of the unofficial Black National Anthem to Arizona’s State Farm Stadium before Chris Stapleton’s performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Rihanna headlines the official halftime show—it’ll be her first public performance in five years.
Also at tonight’s Super Bowl, pop-soul veteran Babyface sang “America the Beautiful.” At last year’s game, Mickey Guyton sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and Jhené Aiko sang “America the Beautiful.” A hip-hop halftime show brought together Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem.
