In 2009, David Berman ended Silver Jews after releasing their final album, the previous year’s Lookout Mountain Lookout Sea. In a new episode of “3 Songs Podcast,” Bob Nastanovich, a member of Silver Jews and Pavement, revealed that Berman is planning a comeback for next year. “I’m pleased to announce that my buddy David Berman is gonna put out in 2019 his first recorded output in a little over a decade,” he says.

Nastanovich continues, “The band’s not gonna be called Silver Jews anymore. It’s gonna be called Purple Mountains.” He also notes that the record will be released by Silver Jews’ longtime label Drag City. (A representative for Drag City had no comment when contacted by Pitchfork.) Listen to the full episode below; the announcement comes around the 58:00 mark.

Back in 2015, Nastonovich teased a reunion, sharing a photo with Berman “after Jews practice” and revealing two song titles. Their compilation Early Times arrived in 2011.
