Skrillex continues to operate more in the background than on his own productions lately, teaming up with Valentino Khan this time to produce a new track for Korean pop artist KEY. The song “Chemicals” comes out on KEY’s debut solo artist album, FACE.

KEY comes from the KPop group SHINee and made this album as a way to prove his versatility as an artist. “In the past, I used to be a lot more concerned with chart performances and digital singles, but nowadays I’m more focused on proving that I’m able to put effort into my work and basically showing that I can do it,“ he said.

The 10-track album contains a song co-produced by Skrillex and Valentino Khan. Skrillex is no stranger to KPop, having previously teamed up with Korean singers CL and G-Dragon on “Dirty Vibe” off his debut album Recess; we assume the experience is new for Valentino.

The song heavily features KEY’s vocals – no surprise there – accompanied by lots of Skrillex-production idiosyncrasies like the vocal chops in the background and that all-too-recognizable Jack U snare.

Fans are understandably frustrated with the lack of “pure” Skrillex material coming out lately, but the producer is definitely busier than ever. Maybe 2019 will be the year? We’ll see.
