In ‘WTF news of the week,’ apparently Skrillex’s music has just been scientifically proven to help ward off mosquitos. The recent study, published by Acta Tropica, showed us how Sonny’s classic “Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites” original actually acted as an insect repellent towards the mosquito species Aedes aegypti, known as the yellow fever mosquito.

The track was selected, in particular, due to the sheer volume of high and low frequencies it contained as – it turns out – mosquito behavior is directly tied to their experience of sound in their environment. Researchers observed not only a lower occurrence of ‘host blood feeding’ but a lesser degree of mosquito sex as well. Next time you find yourself being bombarded by these pesks at your family barbecue, give dad this genius reasoning to start bumping Skrill’s Bangarang EP.
