Spoon’s bassist Rob Pope, who has been with the band since 2006, has announced that he is leaving the band. He wrote that he plans to continue working on new music and touring and recording with the Get Up Kids.

“As Spoon’s bass player since 2006, I’ve never taken for granted the thrills and challenges that have come with being in this band,” he wrote. “Now, after some serious thought, the timing feels right for me to leave Spoon in order to spend more time with family and personal projects.” Read his full statement, thanking the fans and the band, below.

Spoon are releasing a greatest hits album, featuring a new song called “No Bullets Spent,” on July 26. They’re also touring this year with Beck and Cage the Elephant. Get Up Kids released a new album earlier this year.
