Stan Lee, creator or co-creator of characters Black Panther, Spider-Man, X-Men, The Mighty Thor, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, Ant-Man and other characters, has died, a source told The Hollywood Reporter.
Lee’s popularity within the current generation was no doubt bolstered by his numerous cameos in all of the films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He became a modern-day icon, and sometimes meme, and real-life superhero to many young adults who grew up watching the new movies.
Lee’s career in comics began in the 1950s when he created The Fantastic Four with Jack Kirby. And the rest, as they say, is history.
“I used to think what I did was not very important,” he told the Chicago Tribune in April 2014. “People are building bridges and engaging in medical research, and here I was doing stories about fictional people who do extraordinary, crazy things and wear costumes. But I suppose I have come to realize that entertainment is not easily dismissed.”
Lee was reportedly rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center this morning where he died. He was 95.
