Fans were thrown for a loop this week when the headlines broke — 21 Savage Arrested by ICE, May Be Deported.

The so-thought Atlanta rapper was targeted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and taken into custody earlier this week. 21 Savage, real name Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is actually a U.K. citizen according to ICE. He has been staying in the states on a visa that expired back in 2005.

There’s much more to the story than initial reports…

21 Savage is not being deported without a fight. A petition started up by Black Lives Matter organizers seeks to keep 21 Savage in his home, here in the U.S.

“The circumstances of Mr. Abraham-Joseph’s detention stand as a testament to the consistent and historically under-reported harassment and targeting of Black immigrants,” the petition reads. “The US’ violent history of criminalizing Blackness intersects with its deadly legacy of detaining and deporting Black and Brown immigrants.”

So far, the petition has acquired 189,054 of 200,000 signatures.
