Webster Hall closed for renovations in August 2017 with a final closing set from Skrillex. It was the perfect send off, but one that made fans of the legendary venue worried for its future.

Now owned by AEG Presents and Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment, Webster Hall is officially opening its doors again on May 1 with a show from Patti Smith. An initial lineup announcement for the venue, for May through November, was made this morning, and we’ll say one thing — it’s definitely diverse.

The lineup includes:

  • Troyboi,
  • FKJ,
  • Chromeo [Live],
  • MGMT,
  • Empire of the Sun,
  • Emo Nite LA,
  • And more.

However, a lot of fans of the old Webster aren’t impressed, calling it Manhattan’s answer to Brooklyn Steel. As of right now, the bass and house music contingency isn’t represented at all, and there’s no word about the bassment returning, either.

That doesn’t mean it can’t still return to its former glory. The announced shows are still spaced pretty far apart, leaving plenty of room for other artists to get booked.

In a statement, partners at Bowery Presents John Moore and Jim Glancy said, “As we honor the rich history this venue holds with fans and artists alike, we are excited to begin this new chapter with artists that we love and respect.”

For now, you can see dates of shows at Webster Hall’s website, and see the announcement below.
