When it comes to video content, YouTube is king — and they want to keep it that way. A new initiative strives to bring Instagram-like stories to the platform so creators can experiment with the new feature.

YouTube recently began rolling out the add-on and today the streaming company is offering instant stories to over 10,000 more subscribers. These temporary uploads can be accessed via the “Up Next” sidebar, next to the videos.

“Stories are short, mobile-only videos that allow you to connect with your audience more casually, on the go,” Google Support explains.

The biggest difference between Instagram Stories and YouTube’s beta version is the duration of the content, 24 hours vs. 7 days, respectively. Similarly, creators are able to connect with users who tap into their stories and are able to respond publicly.

So far, the feature has mixed reviews from Redditors and users sounding off on Twitter. In response, YouTube says they “applied feedback that we got from you to build a product specifically designed with you, the YouTube creator, in mind.”

Do you think this is a good move for YouTube or would you rather the platform stays in its lane? Let us know!
